Children of Incarcerated Parents: An Action Plan for Federal Policymakers
This action plan reviews both federal and state barriers to identifying and serving children of incarcerated parents, and offers policy recommendations for the U.S. Congress and the Administration. The action plan is designed to help federal leaders improve policies for children of incarcerated parents, but also includes recommendations of value to states and local governments that can facilitate and complement federal initiatives and result in better responses to this population.
Technical Assistance:
The Justice Center provided technical assistance to three "learning site" jurisdictions in Michigan, Arizona, and Texas. Justice Center staff helped corrections and human services officials in each jurisdiction collaboratively implement selected recommendations from the Report of the Re-Entry Policy Council. Agencies in each of the participating jurisdictions have continued to collaborate on initiatives designed to provide more effective, integrated and efficient services to reentry adults and their families.
Collaboration Tool: (Coming soon)
This tool will enable existing partnerships between corrections and human service agencies to assess how well their collaborative effort is performing. The tool will allow partners working on a reentry initiative to examine their efforts in seven different domains: goals of the initiative, target population, assessment and planning, collaborative supports, funding, outcomes and evaluation, and public strategies. Both an interactive web-based version of the tool and a print-based version of the tool will be published.
Repaying Debts
This publication discusses how policymakers can increase accountability among people who commit crimes, improve rates of child support collection and victim restitution, and make people’s transition from prisons and jails to the community safe and successful. The online guide presents the research highlights, policy statements, and state examples featured in the Repaying Debts report in an easy-to-navigate format that allows users to browse the entire report and print sections that interest them.
